Many users have two types of paid energy on their bills:
1. The active energy is the useful one, from which benefic results come out (engine motion, post lamps lighting)
2. The reactive energy is necessary to magnetize engines so that they may function.
It is present because of coils in the user’s circuit; it is not consumed but only circulated in a come-and-go movement between the user and energy producer.
The circulation of reactive energy through electric lines of energy distributor causes additional losses of active energy.
The energy supplier bills the reactive energy as well because the circulation of the reactive energy absorbed by it causes additional losses with distribution networks.
In fact, the reactive energy circulates between the energy producer and the user, more precisely among electric equipments – capacitor at the producer and coils at the user (electric engines, transformers).
If this circulation of the reactive energy is restrained at the delimitation point of the consumer with the supplier and the receivers from the user’s interior installation, the energy losses inside distribution networks are eliminated, and the supplier does not bill the reactive energy.
Solution:
It is possible to move the reactive energy sources from the producer to the consumer by mounting capacitors inside the consumer’s installation.
In this way the circulation of reactive energy necessary to physical processes from the consumer’s receivers will continue to exist, but this circulation will take place on a small line which will not include the electric lines of the energy supplier.
The circulated reactive energy will not be recorded by the meter, and this type of energy SHALL NOT be billed anymore.
In terms of rates, at an industrial user the weight of the reactive energy in the bill may vary between 10% and 50%, depending on the functioning aspects, technical status of electric equipments etc. This rate aspect may be eliminated by mounting capacitor banks at the user.
