On the field, we usually find customers that are connected to the electric network via a large transformer which functions at extremely low load. This occurs because the customer is located on an industrial platform which used to be energy intensive and has very much reduced its activity or the customer’s location was under an investment to be implemented progressively, and during initial stages the installed transformer is functioning under load.

Whatever the reason for which a consumer uses a transformer under load, the solution is the same and very profitable.
As the consumer functions under load, it has small active energy consumptions, and the weight of reactive losses in the energy bill reaches up to 80%. Thus, by installing correctly rated losses compensation modules within the transformer, the consumer reduces its energy bill up to 80%, and the investment is amortized in less than 2 months from installation.

Even if the functioning of the under load transformer (for e.g. site organization) is temporary, the investment is useful with normal consumption as well, because the equipment ensures compensation of reactive losses in the transformer, and the losses are also present after loading the transformer.

For the consumers that own a transformer and have the line of electric energy measurement on low voltage, despite the fact that the separation between the consumer and supplier is done on medium voltage, the energy supplier calculates and bills active and reactive energy losses in the consumer’s transformer.
These quantities of energy are given by the register and are added to the consumer’s bill as they cannot be measured by the meter.

The reactive loss component may be compensated so that it would not be billed by the supplier if a loss compensation module is mounted in the consumer’s installation, on the low voltage line and behind the meter to the receivers, in order to generate the reactive energy necessary for the transformer.
Should the metering equipment, the electronic meter, permits the recording of the reactive energy given by the fixed stage of capacitors to compensate losses, the supplier will substract this quantity of energy from the reactive energy calculated as losses and, as a consequence, the rate component due to reactive losses shall be eliminated.

Example:
At a consumer with its own transformer of 400 kVA, which runs in a single shift, the reactive losses reach to minimum 1000 RON every month.
